I loved the concept a twisted Aladdin retelling with dark turns and bold choices 🕌🌪️. The writing style was strong and engaging 📚💫, and the overall plot? A creative hit! 👏
But... once that first major twist hit, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes 🙄. It pulled me out of the magic a bit, and honestly made finishing the book a struggle. That said, I pushed through and I’m glad I did!
Liz Braswell’s style and imagination definitely shine 🌟 and I’m still open to reading more from her! Not a fave, but a solid 3⭐️ from me!

A great twist on Aladdin that covers poverty, the allure of limitless power, and goes to surprisingly dark places to make its point.
Aladdin is a street rat of Agrabah who only steals the food he needs to survive and wishes to have riches. Jasmine is a princess who longs for freedom even though she has all the riches in the world. She is being forced into marriage, so she attempts to runaway. In her attempt to runaway, she meets Aladdin and now their paths are intertwine. What if Aladdin didn’t get the lamp and Jafar got it instead?? Evil magic fills the land and the street rats rise up to safe Agrabah with Jasmine at the head.
This was a great read. I love anything with woman empowerment and I feel this twisted tale embodies just that. Nothing more to be said, ZOMBIES!!!!
