Festive in Death

This one was, to me, way less about the mystery - I don't care what douchebags killed a giant douchebag - and more about Christmas with the main and secondary characters. I loved it so much - the sentiment, the presents, the love.

In terms of the case, Eve seemed a little slower on the uptake than usual (she's just generally so incredibly intuitive)...but that might be because this case involved giant assholes all around. Victim is an asshole, a lot of the possible killers were assholes, just yeesh.

hmmm... I'm a little conflicted on this one.

On the one hand, it seemed shorter than the previous books, as there really wasn't all that much to the investigation. On the other, it dragged. I just wanted this case to be over with already. It was just so disgusting, and quite straight forward.

I loved all the homey, personal Christmas bits, but I would have enjoyed this book ten times more if it didn't involve the icky case and all those icky people. I feel like I need an entire novel of Eve and Roarke just being adorable to clean myself from all the filth *shudders*

So, really, this book wasn't my fave in the series. Eve and Roarke always are, but this case man...

Perfect timing for this audio since the next "In Death" story fell completely off my radar -it is always fun to have a great audio to escape into. A woman stops at her old apartment to put holes in her ex's socks and itching powder in his face cream but instead finds her ex dead with a knife through the heart. Thankfully her friend Trina knows immediately who to call. So it is up to Dallas, Rourke, Peabody and the rest to try to wrap this case up before Christmas. And as always the best parts are the relationships between Dallas, her rich Irish Billionaire husband and all the rest.

Festive in Death is the 39th book in the In Death series. Admittedly, I have experienced bouts of ennui while reading the last several books, but JD Robb is in fine form here. She fills this book with everything that made me fall in love with the series, and it’s now one of my favorites.

The murder mystery involving an egotistical, immoral personal trainer is a really interesting one. It challenges Dallas to put her personal feelings aside in order to get justice for a man that nobody liked. The suspects are really interesting, and this is one whodunit that kept me guessing.

Eve and Roarke share many touching moments that reinforce their emotional bond. I swear that I will go down with that ‘ship! The humor is funnier than ever, especially as Eve is forced to endure Christmas shopping and preparations for the big holiday party she and Roarke are hosting. Virtually every single supporting character ever introduced makes a very welcome appearance. I loved every inch of this addition to the series.

I always love visiting Eve and Roarke, especially at the holidays. Watching Eve get into the holiday party planning has to be one of my favorite scenes. Always worth it!

Another good installment. #39 and I'm still not bored with these characters :)
