This book read like brain junk food. Nothing too amazing, but also nothing too demanding, and that suits my needs for this week just fine.

I love this series and this book just confirms why. The mystery component never disappoints and the future time period is fun. The best part of the series to me is the romance between Dallas and Roarke. I've been enjoying the In Death books for over a decade and will continue as long as Nora Roberts writes them.
Well that was fun. Festive is a nice fluffy Christmas addition to the InDeath Series. We readers have come to look forward to the big Christmas party thrown at the mansion. The hustle and bustle of decorators and caterers. The decorated tree in every room in the mansion. Roarke picking out something extremely revealing for Eve to wear and she complaining about her shoes. It's become a holiday tradition. I was glad to see DeWinter at the big party. She and Nadine together in full cougar form with Eve as bystander was entertaining.
DeWinter: “You don't like me yet, but you will. I'll grow on you.”
Eve: “What? Like mold?”

Ha!
The gift exchanges both personal and for friends were especially enjoyable this year. JDR brought back a favourite character in Tiko to add to Eve's gift buying adventures.
The case was filled with enough despicable characters that I found myself not really caring who the murderer was. I was cheering for none of them except maybe Felicity. The scene with her and Eve was classic Nora;
Felicity: "I'm a dancer. I'm going to be a triple threat- that's what my voice coach says. I'm taking lessons, and acting lessons and more dance lessons. JJ's paying for all of it. I'm an investment."
She flushed prettily.
"Anyway, I just couldn't stay in Shipshewana my whole life, could I?"
Eve got a strange picture of a pirate ship sailing through fields of corn and cows. "I don't see how."

Since this book was all about friends both old and new and the life Roarke and Eve have built for themselves, having an Agatha Christie drawing room murder to solve was a nice non threatening choice. The victims and the potential suspects and the case as a whole took a backseat to the festive holiday spirit of the book.
Come January, 2061 (wow, how time flies) I am sure Eve and Co. will be back pounding the cold and gritty streets of NYC. She or someone near and dear to her might even be in danger. Thanks to some imaginative gift giving, I know which favourite characters will be safe when the bad guys start shooting.
Eve and Roarke are back in an all new holiday thriller. This time, a personal trainer has been killed and one of Eve's friends (acquaintances?) is the one to find him. As Eve and Peabody investigate, they quickly discover that the victim, Trey Ziegler, was more than a little bit of a tool.
Lots of suspects in this one as well as some character development as Eve starts to grow into her role as Roarke's wife.
Solid addition to the cannon. Maybe not the best in the series but one not to be missed.

Such a great book, loved reading the updates in all these characters lives, and Eve having to deal with the bargain she made with Summerset, and yeah, great mystery with a great twist at the end! Loved it!
