I think because I listen to the audiobook for this series, I feel like the characters are friends. (I know that makes me strange). I hate when the book is over. This is another great story and narration.

I loved the Christmas party, and the case they worked on. I thought it was good and I didn't realize who the killer was till the end!

One of the best recent entries to the series. Full review to come.

Another case for Eve, this time involving a victim that turns out to be an awful excuse of a human being. He was a personal trainer who was attractive, a complete narcissist and
Spoileruser of people, especially women, whom he even drugged to get them to sleep with him and then got them to pay him to keep it a secret
.

That doesn't make Eve less determined to find the killer and solve the case, but it makes her suspect list quite long. Among that list, there are
Spoilertwo sisters, who had both slept with the victim. They are both married, and while one is horrified by what she's done and is embarrassed, the other one, Natasha, intentionally paid the victim and had a long term affair with him. Eve's top suspect is Natasha's arrogant, quick-tempered husband, but in the end it turns out to be Natasha, who had fallen in love with the victim and killed him in a fit of rage when she discovered she didn't mean anything to him.

She also killed her sister's personal assistant, who started suspecting her, and then injured herself in an effort to blame it all on her husband, but Eve put things together and managed to get her to confess
.

A less stressful case than the ones Eve usually works, but one that helped her appreciate her and Roarke's love once again. It is satisfying seeing Eve interact with her ever growing circle of loved ones and being happy with Roarke.

Their next adventure comes in [b:Obsession in Death|22571696|Obsession in Death (In Death, #40)|J.D. Robb|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1406509523l/22571696._SY75_.jpg|42038145], where a killer leaves Eve a personal message at a crime scene.

J.D. Robb keeps it going well in this long series. At this point it was like going to visit an old friend. Since this was a holiday book in the series it was what you can expect. It was focused more on a personal storyline, then the murder storyline. Loved seeing Eve shop and her reactions. Loved that the book showed us where everyone and the relationships are at this point in the series. The murder/mystery may not have been the spotlight for me, but it may catch the readers by surprise and keep you guessing.
If you are a fan of the series, it was a wonderful read. If you haven't been introduced yet to this series and it's characters go Pick up Naked in Death!

Christmas in July. Loved it - loved it!
More Trina is always fun...

2.5 stars
This book covered a very boring case. I only liked the holiday themed moments. It has some good moments between Eve and Roarke.

It may be Christmastime, but Eve thinks it’s Halloween when one of her personal boogeymen (otherwise known as her hairstylist, Trina) calls to report a murder. She finds a dead athletic trainer with a note from Santa pinned to his chest with a knife.

Festive in Death is a murder mystery. Not that it shouldn’t be, but the “In Death” series veers from police procedural to whodunit to thriller from book to book. It’s part of the charm, and part of the frustration, with the series.

This was a personal crime and it ends up being a personal story. A hallmark of this series that never gets missed is Eve being forced into dealing with an interpersonal relationship with a friend or co-worker or Summerset and flailing around, since, for her, that’s the true mystery. In a lot of them, no matter how big the moment is, the personal side is a small percentage of the book.

Sometimes I feel like it’s rushed and I want to see more of that, but usually it’s okay. For me, this book balanced that well. It may actually have gone over to being as much Eve novel as it was Eve mystery. Like I said, personal crime, personal story. There is time devoted to Christmas shopping. There is so much fun in the bullpen at the station getting ready for the holidays. I can hear Galahad jingling. That’s enough of the fun.

I did figure out the mystery before the detectives, but not by that much. And there were clues. It wasn’t at all a meta moment of “it has to be this person because of this character elimination – like they are the least obvious or they are the most important to the hero” that you find so often in other books. It was police work and that’s what Eve’s all about.

quick read. enjoyable. Write faster J D Robb!!

I love the gifts Eve gets for everyone. She always stresses about it, but she really does get great things. And the gifts she got for Roarke and vice versa were perfect. The murder was less interesting this time-it seemed pretty cut and dry.
