I had to read this book for school and....it's so hard to rate. I enjoyed the writing style but man, this book is problematic. I don't feel comfortable writing a review about this book tbh :/
I get that this is a incredibly significant British classic because it involves the rise of the female author and it was the first piece of literature to depict slaves in a sympathetic, even heroic light, but it was still tough to read. What a tragedy.

I had to read this in The Norton Anthology version for a class and I’m marking it because I haven’t fully ready something for a class in a while and this took very long.
“… a little beast called an armadillo, a thing which I can like to nothing so well as a rhinoceros: it is all in white armour, so jointed that it moves as well in it as if it had nothing on. This beast is about the bigness of a pig of six weeks old.”
"And why, my dear Friends and Fellow-sufferers. shou'd we be Slaves to an unknown people?"
It wasn’t a bad book. It was assigned in one of my Lit classes, so it’s safe to say I wouldn’t have normally picked it up. The beginning and middle of the novel were very promising, but after Imoinda and Oroonoko were reunited the text lost its momentum which made reading it feel like a chore.
Most books assigned are in some ways painful, but this wasn’t as bad (probably because it didn’t take long to read). However, I still won’t pick this up again unless prompted to in the future.
