This was admittedly a little bit twee and I wasn’t a huge fan of the structure but ultimately, it was an short, sweet and enjoyable read and somehow made me love cows even more (something I didn’t think possible…)

A lovely meditative little book. I read it in bits & pieces before bed, as there’s no real through-line or narrative, and found Young’s observations delightful. Her pragmatic tone and reflections on animal husbandry as a whole were compelling to me too.

I feel the need to write a review just to combat the angry vegetarians/vegans who chose to read a book that is clearly about farming, written by a farmer... If those things anger you - don't read this book.

This book is a lovely, relaxing read - especially if you have the audiobook. It's essentially a collection of stories and reflections about the lives of cows, as observed by Rosamund who has lived and worked alongside the cows for her whole life. It explores cows behaviour, habits, individual stories about different cows, and all these things in a very unique way.
