I so enjoyed (and learned so much from) this enchanting and informative look at the secret lives of cows, pigs, hens and sheep. Young is a good storyteller and educator as well.

I cannot get over the deep humanising of these animals being placed next to constant reminders that the owners see them as food. That, along with some poorly expressed views around homeopathy, turned me away from this book.

I've always loved and had an interest in cows. I picked this up at a charity shop and thought the cover and idea was charming. What do cows think and feel, why do they behave as they do? I did find the book interesting I like knowing that cows have other cows they prefer and that they can be protective. Also, the fact that they have individual personalities that shine through. I liked the book, but it's not particularly something I would read again or think about often.
Absolutely wonderful! She is such a joy to read and I enjoyed learning about cows.
I thought that that this book was thoughtful and insightful. It presented a humane view of farming and a humane view of animal husbandry. Whether one is a meat eater or not, consideration of the nature of what we eat is important.

A rather interesting read, I particular liked the audio narration of the addition I read. Quite a quick and easier non fiction to go for as well if you're worried about dense non fiction reads
