this was super fun and entertaining! evan is such a funny and relatable main character. the mystery aspect of the story kept me engaged and guessing, but i honestly favored the scenes of evan getting to know her new family and home. i really enjoyed watching evan build relationships with those around her (namely with kit, her sister, & father). i hope to see these relationships continue to progress in the next book! i’d especially like to see more of evan’s grandmother, aka the queen mother.

“royal blood” also manages to tackle some serious subjects, yet still remains fun and easy to read. topics such as sexual assault and mental illness are discussed in a sensitive, understanding way. some of the reveals were a bit predictable for me, but the main reveal did take me by surprise. it also left me with even more questions (that cliffhanger!). i am excited to read the next book in the series and hopefully get some more answers!

I didn't enjoy this book which I read at book club. However I was in the minority as most loved it! I found the main character unrelatable and hard to get behind, and struggled to root for any of the other characters. I almost skipped book club this summer when they read the sequel, but glad I read that as I enjoyed it more!

It just wasn’t holding my attention.

this is going to be one of the most popular books of 2023 mark my words… definitely worth the read and any future hype it gets. also greatly commend carter for writing about delicate topics with so much sensitivity and compassion.

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is the first book in the Royal Blood series. In this book, we meet Evangeline "Evan" Bright, the 17-year-old illegitimate child of the King of England, Alexander. She is forced to spend time in England with her father and his family. They don't want her to be there, nor does she want to be there as well. However, when she becomes the murder suspect of a well-known friend of the Royals, she has to rely on her new "family." I thought that the story was great. It was intriguing. I thought The mystery and murder was a great read. I thought Evan was a great character. This story made her a more relatable character. She has been put in bad situations, but I thought she was smart and witty. I thought that the ending was interesting, and it made for an intriguing storyline for book 2 - Royal Scandal. I cannot wait to read book 2. Royal Scandal, here I come. Overall, a great read.
