An eye-opener about privilege, loyalty, and forgiveness. This book disappoints the reader in meaningful ways. That is, the story is not a fairytale full of near misses. There is real tragedy and just when you think you're going to make it to the happy ending, you get hit again. I wouldn't call this book uplifting, but it IS inspirational and a reminder that we all make huge mistakes and we all miss our chances to remedy those mistakes sometimes...but we can certainly try!

Honestly I could not put this book down as soon as I picked it up. The story has so many turns that leave you unsure of the ending, but by the conclusion of this novel you’re left in tears. Truly a beautiful piece written by a brilliant author, I’m looking forward to reading more of Hosseini.

I really enjoyed the story and the journey Amir takes, but I am not the biggest fan of the writing style. For the most part I felt like I was being told a story, not experiencing it alongside the characters- there's a difference. This story does a good job of bringing things full circle - what Amir deals with as a kid is a similar challenge 25 years later. Good, but could have been better.

This was a re-read while I planned lessons for it. Such a beautiful story. It hits different reading it as a parent.

The insight into afghan culture and history was enriching. Some heavy shit happens and I could not continue at some times because it was hard to process. Needless to say, I cried a lot.
