Taking into account that this book was written in 1959, for the time this was a scary book. Current times this may be another run of the mill serial killer book. But this does have a twist that might throw you off a bit. You may also catch the twist right away. Still, it was a quick, easy read. It was good enough that I think I'll check out book 2 in the trilogy.
People always say the book is better than the movie, but I say the book was pretty identical to the movie. There were a few new details in the book, but nothing you couldn't decipher on your own having watched the movie.
"there are times when you must stop analyzing and depend on your emotions"
Another book in which the big twist is OMG WOMEN AMIRITE? Which, for the times, okay, but doesn't strike me as particularly gripping these days.
While the story held me from start to finish, there were times (I was listening to the audiobook) when I just wanted to fast-forward the damn thing. It was much slower than I was expecting. I just love Bloch's short stories about a hundred times more, I guess.

"Did you find any of the characters loveable ?"
The two sisters and that was it. Sam annoyed me and the Sheriff got on my nerves too.
I had come into this expecting it to be somewhat different from the movie and although Hitchcock changed around some things (example, in the book they remind us ten times a chapter that Norman is fat) and swapped him out for pretty boy Anthony Perkins.
It fits for film, but i think both work out well. book and film, it would be nice to see a version even more faithful to this book. I was locked in suspense from the moment I opened the first chapter due to Norman's unholy trilogy internal monologues.
10/10
