Really classic horror, but a little before its time?? Transvestitism, incestuous relationships, murder, sexual deviancy, multiple personalities. All of these things come together for a classic horror novel that does not start with a bang, but with a slash.
I took off 1/2 star because I really, really wanted to know how we got to "The End." That transformation happened decades ago, not with the devil we know now.
Highly recommended.

A young woman, a shower, and a shadow of a knife. These three things made one of horror cinema’s most famous scenes. This storyline was great, and I honestly felt this was the perfect length for this book. Everything was wrapped up almost perfectly and every character’s plot was finished. I loved the ending, and the acceptance of one’s self in insanity. I honestly wish this book was a a stand alone, and I have no desire to read the other books that follow this. If it weren’t for this book, we may not got see one of the most iconic shots in horror history.
Funny how Psycho shows more bathroom tolerance than JK Rowling. He may be a blueprint for transphobic tropes but Lila Crane just shrugs off Norman Bates sharing bathroom space with her sister... murder aside.
