You can really feel the author's voice on most of the pages and touches of it in all of the characters presented. If you're familiar with his work, you'll appreciate a lot of the themes touched upon here. There are a lot more sci-fi elements than I was expecting ("enhanced" soldiers that sounded like something out of black mirror, most people have minor enhancements that prevent aging and give immunity to illness or allow quick healing from injuries), but it worked with the story and not against it. I loved the three main characters that you follow and felt that the jump between perspectives was handled well, that each character was given a fair shake.
My criticisms with the book were mostly the vulgarity and the the drugs. I am no prude and cursing/drug/alcohol use in books isn't something that bothers me, but the vulgarity and the drugs shoehorned into everything stopped feeling like world-building and plot devices and felt more like being edgy for edginess sake. I found myself cringing here and there at it, which is what made me ultimately remove a star.
Overall, After The Revolution is not a book you'll like unless you're a fan of Robert Evans or at least in agreement with his views and politics. I think this is a book for his fans and I don't think minds will be changed because of it. But, if you are a fan of his, or into leftist literature, I think this is worth picking up and giving a read!

*pats the side of the audiobook* This baby can hold SO MANY trigger warnings, but nothing feels especially exploitative or shock value-y, and the isms come almost exclusively from religious bigots, and are only dominant themes for part of the book. It's just a hard story set in a hard world, with some comfort and pleasure packed in around the edges, where folk can find itbooknug's review against another edition
