I managed to read this in two days so I think that says something about the book!
The pace was great and the short chapters and tension helped me fly through this book!
I can understand what others are saying about the ending, was a little flat, bit feels like maybe there's more to come.

Would have been a 5 but the ending felt flat.

An interesting idea and twist on a classic mob lawyer story. I thought it was very funny at parts and would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if it wasn’t for the persistent misogyny. No female character escapes it except for the main character’s 5 year old daughter. Every woman he comes across is either his scornful and bitter wife, a scornful and bitter receptionist, a stupid trainee, or a prostitute (which is obviously not an issue in and of itself, but given the way, but the sex workers exist only to be beaten and used by a ‘brutal pimp.’)
I read this as a library book and it was very quick/easy read which is why I finished it instead of DNFing. It is very disappointing as I generally enjoyed the rest of the book and would’ve otherwise recommended it.

Everything about this book piqued my interest when I first heard about it! I’m not sure it’ll leave my brain in a hurry. Achieving a better work-life balance is a goal for many of us, but when Björn’s journey begins and he learns a little more about mindfulness, he discovers some pretty disturbing new coping strategies…
Murder Mindfully is such a unique crime novel written with a dark, comical edge. I couldn’t help but get fully drawn into such an original concept, the murder and the mindfulness contrasting in such a clever way from beginning to end. For the most part, it’s an addictive read, characters are developed so well (even though there are a fair few to get acquainted with) and the plot was really engaging. The mindfulness quotes at the start of each chapter were surprisingly useful (I definitely won’t be using them to commit a murder, ha) and the way this theme of being mindful became the foundations of everything Björn does to turn his life around was explored to perfection. It’s a dangerous, tense and thrilling journey until the very last page. A must read!

Historically mindfulness irritates me. The whole wellness carry on to be fair makes me eye roll hard enough to bring on a minor seizure. Fuck fancy juices that cost £6 -8 and grains, bitter leaves and Herby yogurt drizzle. No. No. I want tea, I want toast and I'd like nobody to talk at me about the magically grounding power of earth. There's colours in a plug socket for that. I'm still very much in the wellness camp can all fuck off BUT this book was alright. I was entertained, it was pleasing company, it's not amazing but it's fun. The premise is a criminal lawyer whose main (and only) client is a terrible human mindfully murders said man because he wanted to preserve his time island/work free weekend with his daughter and left the hallion who was trying to flee in a hot car boot for said weekend. He subsequently mindfully runs the fellas remains through a woodchipper and effectively becomes the head of a criminal syndicate. He uses different mindful techniques to navigate the myriad of problems that entails - all of which he's learnt from his mindfulness coach. It's in the same sort of wheelhouse as the one hundred year old man climbed out of the window and disappeared sort of books. Daft, violent in a funny way, ridiculous but still logically plausible. And some of the mindfulness stuff didn't seem unreasonable to bear in mind outside of circumstances concerning organised crime and murder. It's just a decent fun read. Not taxing, not amazing, and not an awful way to spend a few hours - a bit of popcorn for the brain and cheaper than hippie juice 3/5.

Read this for book club, it's not something I would have picked up myself or something I probably would have kept reading otherwise. However I did enjoy the writing style and found it fairly easy to read, I'm glad I finished it although was left with many questions at the end, probably the idea!
It's a book of recommend to my partner or brother as I think they would enjoy it a lot and it posed a lot of questions, it also did make me think about mindfulness and separating work from free time!
