The title of the book is NOT what you would think it is about lol...it is not an erotica novel. I did know this going into it as I read a few reviews prior and it peaked my interest.

The beginning of the book started off great. I loved it, I was invested and I thought it was going to be a great book. Basically, it starts with a book club gathering from the early 1960s when things were obviously much different and not as liberal or open. Four women with different personalities gather and at the beginning we get a glimpse into their lives. Gloria was quite a character and to be honest, the book would have been so much better if she had remained a part of it. Of all the characters in the book, she is the most memorable and you want to know more about her life.

Anyhooo the original four members of the book club select a new member each to take over their seat in the club and we are introduced to present day and four new book club members. The four original members all moved to live in Paris. The new book club members... I didn't really care for any of them. One seemed whiney, one seemed privlidged, one seemed oblivious and one seemed weak even though she was first introduced as a strong career individual at the beginning.

The ending seemed extremely rushed and I was left with many questions wondering what had happened with different aspects of their lives. It was just okay for me.

Surprisingly uplifting and humorous, this book (albeit a bit over the top) was pretty darn adorable. The friendships, book selections, and setting were so much fun. MJ has been living a fast paced life of work, work, more work, with a tiny bit time set aside for her long distance boyfriend. When she is passed over for a promotion that she rightfully deserves MJ decides to pack some bags and stay the summer with her hunky boyfriend in California, lord knows she has enough vacation time piled up. While beach-side she becomes restless, unsure what to do with herself. She's never had this much free time in her life. She befriends her elderly neighbor but before she can get too chummy, her neighbor up and moves to Paris. So much for a friendship. Gloria does leave behind one thing though. An invitation to join a secret book club, one that reads only dirty books. MJ's curiosity gets the better of her and she decides to go to one one meeting. Little does she know that her summer is about to drastically change and she might meet the best friends of her life. Chick-lit at its finest.

I wanted to love this one so much. Maybe it’s because the title was an attention grabber for a dirty book lover like myself. Maybe it’s because the synopsis of the book showed it’s potential. Maybe it was because I felt a sense of nostalgia picking up a book by Lisi Harrison after reading her series, the Clique, while growing up.

The book focused on 4 women living in the past and 4 living in the present. One timeline was more interesting than the other and I would have rather spent the whole book focusing on that timeline. Overall this book just couldn’t keep my attention.

3.5/5 but not bad enough for a 3 star rating. I liked it but at the same time, it felt like I was reading a book that was bones for a longer series or longer book at the least.

Let me first say that I may have judged this book by the title. I expected it to be more about the books these friends read and how they may or may not have brought it into their own lives but it wasn’t that way. However I did still like the book overall but slightly disappointing that it didn’t live up to the expectations I had for it. It is a good book about different people who come together as friends and how they help each other with though decisions and get tough times in their lives

Shows how much power female friendship can have. The ending just seemed a bit rushed.

This book was just okay overall. I had some issues keeping the characters straight - some of them felt basically the same. I also felt like the book wrapped up too quickly and was kind of confusing towards the end. And the writing wasn't great...there were some phrases that made me laugh out loud and not in a good way. Light beachy type read that was interesting enough, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

The last books I've read hasn't been the most inspiring books so I decided I needed something light and hopefully fun. This certainly fulfilled my wishes! I actually laughed out loud several times
