I read this book as a child and was so obsessed with it, so when I saw it in the thrift store I just knew I had to buy it and re-read it again. so cute and I could definitely see little me reading this, now it is just a simple children's book but it is still cute and I love the message it is trying to give
Very cute book. I might never have read it before? But the animated movie version, which I saw a great many times, is a pretty good adaptation, so it felt like I'd read it.

Absolute classic from childhood, really enjoyable re-read. No surprises here but I loved the nostalgia as an adult and the themes of friendship, anxiety, community, and love are still certainly relevant today.
Read this with my little one and was bothered with different things throughout, like how Fern was into Ferris wheels and boys at the end which had nothing to do with everything else in the story, and the subtle messages this book might send with characters’ gendered roles, and more. Not a book I would want to read again with any of my kids.

This book is cute. I always get sappy when I read it and cry when the end comes. I did not enjoy it near as much as I recall enjoying reading this as a child. However, this time throughI tag it with my kids. They loved it.
I have, of course, read this book many, many times, especially as a child. I haven’t read it for a long time, but my 8 year old granddaughter was visiting this month. I had been wanting to read it to her via video call, but she is too busy when we call to sit for a book. So her visit offered the opportunity. I brought the book and a recording of E.B. White reading it on our trip to Santa Fe, so we could listen and I could show pictures. We finished it side by side on the couch the next day. Steve, who was driving, caught my eye often as we listened, and sat across from us on the other couch. GD curled in my lap to follow along in the book, so I could not see her face, but Steve’s eyes were shiny and my eyes stung as we listened to E.B. White tell us of Charlotte’s death, all alone. Then, we listened to the end, with Templeton grown enormous, with Fern drifting away to be more social, with Wilbur making friends year after year with Charlotte’s progeny.
This book is a once-a-century book. It should not be neglected. It deserves all the re-reads and then some.
