4.5 stars. Higashino has become one of my favourite mystery writers on account of his ability to uniquely and powerfully captivate the reader in a single book. once more the murder of a single woman becomes a tale that involves multiple witnesses, bystanders, a murderer, and Higashino gives attention to each character involved to expose the ultimate plot of the murder in a clever way. Kaga's detective work takes you alongside him for the final reveal, and it is delightful every step of the way.

I didn't feel involved in the story at all, there was no suspense, and the protagonist's character was inadequately developed.
I chose this one after reading and adoring [b:The Miracles of the Namiya General Store|44287550|The Miracles of the Namiya General Store|Keigo Higashino|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1564085721l/44287550._SX50_.jpg|58078756] and [b:The Devotion of Suspect X|8686068|The Devotion of Suspect X (Detective Galileo, #1)|Keigo Higashino|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1312051518l/8686068._SY75_.jpg|13558363] by Keigo Higashino. Unfortunately, this one didn't pack quite the same punch. The way the story is written makes it very cosy and "feel good", which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by the murder mystery itself, which I found a little too easy and simplistic.

It is not as intense as the other books of his but there was something humanely about it. Wonderful read anyway.
2.5 stars
A woman is found dead in her apartment. Detective Kaga is investigating the crime. Instead of going in a more straight forward manner, the book makes a huge detour presenting us with the life of every individual that is interviewed, their family, their sorrows and happy instances. And most of the time to determine something as simple as why did the victim had some new scissors.
There are too many small details, characters.
The investigation for the first two thirds of the book consists more in showing how ingenious detective Kaga is unravelling small details from random people's lives despite their lack of forthcoming or their lies. So for me it tended to be pretty boring and I lost interest. By the end of it, I just wanted to be done.
