Damn. Didn't see that coming.

will review soon :)

sounds alot like the book the host....alot like it

I got to page 130, but I didn't really take anything from it. It didn't really manage to suck me in. I got distracted constantly, because the book was a bit boring to me. I felt like the plot hadn't actually started yet. I found myself hoping the book would end soon, so I decided not to finish it.
I am sure other people feel very differently though. My best friend recommended the book to me, so she must really like it. It's just not for me, I guess.

The idea was good. The ending crashed and burned.

At the risk of sounding completely teen-like, this book was so cool! I loved it. It is a post-apocalyptic novel showing the lives of the teenagers Callie and Michael along with Callie's younger brother Tyler following the Spore Wars. Similar to many young adult novels, the children are orphans and must struggle to survive in this new world. Enders (older folk, i.e. the retired) have complete control and many of the Starters must live on the street until they are of legal age to work. Things get more sinister as we learn of Prime Destination, a place where the bodies of Starters are rented out to the Enders so that they can live in a younger body. With Callie's chip malfunctioning, things begin to get complicated from there on.

It was such an exciting and enticing book! Full of action, suspense and mystery, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen with the variety of characters. The world building was great, it sucked you straight into the heart of the novel and it was a rude awakening when I put the book down. I'm really looking forward to Enders! Starters is full of twists and turns, with every chapter drawing you further into this dark world. The thing I love about really well-written and developed dystopias is that I never get bored of them, and this is certainly one of them. It reminded me in parts of Madeline Ashby's vN, another book that I really enjoyed.

Callie was an incredibly likeable character. I really just wanted everything to work out for her. I'm looking forward to finding out more about her and her past. It would be great to hear more from little Tyler too. Both such lovable characters, I loved how strong and maternal Callie was to her younger brother, and it was great seeing her efforts appreciated. She is such an incredibly kick-ass figure, she wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty and was definitely ready to protect all those that she cared about. Her struggles seem so realistic, it really made me feel for her with all of her adventures and struggles.

This was a really great book. The only reason for the 4* is that the very first chapter had me a little worried. I was also a little unsure about certain aspects of one of the final few chapters. Other than that I absolutely loved it and can't wait to read the next one in the series :).

Starters was an enjoyable ride. It was intriguing, action-packed, and overall original.

I usually don't really like this kind technologically advanced world. I just have a hard time picturing this world and such. But I think Price did a good job with this world. I didn't have much trouble picturing it and I didn't feel like it took away from the plot, which in the beginning I thought it might be in danger of.

And the idea was pretty much original, too. I say 'pretty much' because there were some parts that reminded me of The Host. But Price handled the being in another's body in a unique way. It was intriguing and kept me thinking.

Callie. I really liked how loyal she was to her brother and her friends. She had been through a lot and was still selfless. She also showed moments of bravery. In the long run I had trouble relating to her. But I liked her personality and as a character.

Starters wasn't my favorite dystopian novel or dystopian world, but it was still entertaining. I'm intrigued to see where the next book takes us.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and I'm happy it's coming to join the dystopian-series trend going on in YA fiction. Ms. Price writes fairly well, but she creates a strong and (mostly) sensible protagonist in Callie - while I didn't always agree with her actions, I understood them and felt that they were well founded - something not all dystopian YA protagonists can boast.

I also loved that for once, it has been well explained as to why only certain demographics survived - not just well explained, LOGICALLY explained! Exciting. It makes perfect sense that only Starters and Enders survived because they were given first access to vaccines as the most vulnerable to spores. If nothing else, the book got 4 stars for that.

Starters is a promising beginning, and I hope the remainder of the series is as enjoyable as this.

I’ve been meaning to read this one for so long now and I’m pretty happy that I’ve finally picked it up (Thanks to the book signing event which will happen next month). Honestly, the book is so action-packed and truly “a bona fide page-turner”.

Callie’s parents was wiped out because of the Spore Wars, along with the others aged between twenty to sixty. Now, she’s living with her seven-year old brother, Tyler, and her friend, Michael as squatters. Looking for ways to survive, Callie desperately goes to Prime Destinations— a place run by The Old Man, where they hire teens to have their bodies rented out by Enders or senior citizens who wants to experience the joys of being young again. Callie signs up for the program but the neurochip installed in her brain had certain malfunctions which caused her life to change. Soon after, she discovers that there’s more behind Prime Destinations than it’s pretty enticing facade.

The concept of this book is freaking amazing. Honestly, I’ve never read anything like it. I’m a fan of dystopian fics and I’m very proud to say that this is one of the best dystopian books that I have read.

I loved how the book immediately switched to action mode. The thing about Prime Destinations is that it’s very intriguing and it’s one of those things that you know you’re not going to fall for their game play.

Callie is a very likeable character. She’s a strong one, a fighter. I love her willpower, her courage and her integrity. Tyler is pretty adorable and smart for a boy of his age. I liked Michael too. He’s a great friend to Callie and Tyler. The other teens in the story are either legit teens or renters so mostly I had doubts about their characters, especially with Blake. I really really liked Sara. I’m so sad because of what happened to her character. The mystery around The Old Man was really intriguing and I so did not see that one twist coming. It was written so well.

Overall, the book was really enjoyable and thrilling. It’s full of action and a bit of a romance which balances out the “dark” side of the book.
