Well this was actually creepy. Now I'm a whimp and can get scared easily, especially if I'm already thinking of creepy things. That said, this feels like a mix between goosebumps and fear street. Now I've never read goosebumps, going to rectify that soon, but I LOVE fear street. Having asked friends that have read goosebumps, I feel confident in that compassion. This feels like introductory books for kids that want to dip into horror but not go into a lot of gore and nightmares. It contains three short stories and they're good.

I'm a big fan of the FNAF series and really enjoy the lore (obligatory Game Theory shoutout) and was really looking forward to reading this book. However, I was overall fairly unimpressed. The writing wasn't anything spectacular, but it was passable, especially considering that the intended audience is younger. If nothing else, it was very easy to read, and I finished this book pretty quickly.

There are three short stories in this book, but I think only the first one is worth reading. It was the only one I enjoyed. I liked Oswald as a character and found the horror to be the most unsettling of the three stories. The second story about Sarah was all right, but her character was VERY one note, obsessed with her appearance and becoming popular at school. Millie's story was the weakest of the three. Millie is also very bland and uninteresting, and reading her inner thoughts about death and sadness and how edgy she is practically every other sentence got very old very quickly. I almost stopped reading at this point because I could only roll my eyes so much without causing permanent damage.

I did get some decent bits of horror out of this book, but I'll be the first to admit I scare pretty easily and overall this book just wasn't doing it for me. I expect a lot more disturbing storytelling out of a franchise like FNAF. I'll give the next book a shot to see if future installments get any better. I do think that, for younger readers, however, this is probably a pretty solid entry for fans of the games. It's the kind of book I would have loved as a kid.

Good book but the ending of to be beautiful was awful and cinda cheesy and the punishments of the female protagonists were worse than the male protagonists punishment . It was a good book to read for state testing tho. I’m still going to read fech

Into. The. Pit. The first story of the insanity that is the FNaF novellas that just got turned into a game. Since this is technically three books in one, I'll talk about all of them. First, we got Into the Pit. This was fun. Oswald isn't the most interesting main character of these, but he isn't the worst (he deserves to join the cast of playable kids in this series). I liked the William Bunny Not-Robot villain, although he never was explained and probably never will be. Wait, what if he's from a different dimension, and that's why he's all weird? What if Oswald is from the game universe, and he traveled into the past of the book universe? Is that why his Dad if Freddy Bro, dispite the Missing Children incident going differently? Man, I can't talk about this without making theories.

Next is To Be Beautiful. Definitely my least favorite of the three stories. The biggest problem is Giraffe Not-Baby Barbie girl Elanor. She's the evil guy of the stingers or something, but I didn't read those. I think she dies? And maybe comes back in Tales of the Pizzaplex, because it has a girl in a similar situation to Sarah. This is Sarah. She really wanted to be a popular kid, so they made her one. How's work AS A BEAUTIFUL, Sarah? "It's alright." Poor Sarah.

Last but not least, we have Count the Ways. This story is when the writers really amped up the horror. Millie is a goth girl who romanticizes death. After a friend who she had a crush on starts dating a cheerleader, she gets extra sad and finds herself in the stomach of the man, the myth, the legend, Funtime Freddy. Why does Funtime Freddy and Ballora get their own stories, Funtime Foxy hardly appears, and Circus Baby isn't even in it? Who cares. This story goes hard. The most interesting part of Count the Ways is that it isn't presented to us in chronological order. It starts with Millie already trapped inside Funtime Freddy. We then switch between what happened before and Funtime Freddy boasting about how many ways he can mangle a depressed teenager. It gives the normal life portions a sense of dread. When is it gonna happen? Why does it matter? Where is Bon Bon? The book ends with Millie coming up with a plan to survive, and cutting off right before we see if she lives. We might learn that in one of the stingers, but I didn't read those.
