I found this a very interesting and sometimes challenging read. After reading it, I have a lot more empathy for people who have affairs, which was not what I expected beforehand. The author comes across as quite judgemental in a few instances (e.g. regarding polyamory), which I don't think was intended, but still irked me.

Provides a new outlook on infidelity and how our society views love and marriage. Was extremely thought-provoking for me.

I found this to be challenging and insightful. Although infidelity isn’t a factor in my marriage, I was curious about the author and wanted to hear her ideas. The book helped me think through a few things, to think differently about friends who have been affected by infidelity, and to reconsider much of my entire family history as profoundly shaped by infidelity. The audiobook is charmingly narrated by the author.

interesting breakdown on how the views on infidelity have changed (from marital necessity to a moral wrong) and some of the motivations behind it. i especially enjoyed reading perel’s take on the nuances of infidelity, and how a rigid ‘cheating is wrong’ perspective isn’t particularly useful for either party when infidelity occurs.

i was also particularly interested in the concept of an implicit vs explicit partner agreement, and how you can unpack what infidelity means to you and your partner. it’s much more common to discuss in non-monogamous circles but seems a worthy conversation for all!

it's really an "it's not you, it's me" thing with nonfiction. I just can't enjoy it. lmao. Even when it's from my current favorite podcast host, who I love listening to on her podcast.

I almost skipped over this book since I felt it really didn't apply to me, but the reviews intrigued me and I'm glad I decided to give it a shot. I'm a very inquisitive person and I'm always curious about why people are the way they are and why they do the things they do. This book is packed with information, statistics, research, as well as stories of real people and their experiences. It's a fascinating look into human nature and behavior and is an excellent read for anyone, whether you've experienced any form of cheating or not.

cleverly written, beautifully articulated! Esther Perel forces you to live in the gray and to always consider the context!
