Is the selection better, yes. Did I still enjoy this, also yes. However, I realized that I'm not really a fan of slow burn books despite the fact that it made that part a lot more final and enjoyable. It reminded me a lot of A Curse So Dark and Lonely with Noemi possibly, becoming Queen over Annika, and it honestly bothered me a bit. Listen I love Lia Mara and Noemi but it's that feeling where something is so close yet so far away and there's nothing you can do about it. I am glad that Annika and Lennox got their happily ever after, though. This was also a really good book to get back into the swing of reading again!

I’m giving it half stars because parts of it was promising. I really liked the history behind the six/seven tribes and the two kingdoms with the mystery behind who was the actual ruler. I think the tension between Annika and Lennox was promising and could have led to something good.
Until it was revealed that he killed her mom??
And he literally brings it up three times and sort of boasts about it while also shedding a couple tears because “how could we possibly hate him when he is showing empathy with some baby tears

This book started off really strong. It had plot, characters with motivations, and depth. Things fell apart a little by the end, but I found it to be a pretty decent read altogether.
