I got this graphic novel in May's Owlcrate. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get into the story. It's a shame, because the concept is really interesting. Magic ability tied to hair length isn't something I've come across before. But for me, that was really the most unique thing about the graphic novel.

The story felt very reminiscent of fantasy: a family member is killed because of magic, making our main character want to separate themselves from it; there's a school where she is taught her magic and she's treated differently. Maybe it gets more unique and I lost interest too soon, I don't know. Even the art style looks familiar to me. It reminded me a lot of Steven Universe.

I'm sure this will find an audience, but the story elements were just a little too familiar to me, without enough to make it feel different. At least, from as far as I managed to read.

I really enjoy this one.
Love the magic system, love the story, love the art, love all the reps.
Love all the feelings this book bring, from sadness to funny to heartbreaking to heartwarming.
I adore Nyneve and absolutely root for her.
There's something that kinda confusing though, I wished there's more explanation about the background story, it felt like I'm missing something and felt rushed at some parts.

Overall it's a great start to a series and totally recommend this series for everyone's who's looking for YA fantasy graphic novels.
