I described the plot of this to my dad, he called it “Little House on the Scary” and I will never come up with a better or more accurate review

This was ok. It had many slow moments and I found myself getting lost but the tones of found sisterhood, hardship & rebuilding was interesting to read in this context. It did feel eerie at times I just wish it captivated me more than it did.

Just read this book!
Mr. LaValle’s writing is outstanding and this is one of the best books of 2023. The stories of women homesteaders are rarely told, and hearing about Black ones is even more rare. Loved this book.

Anti-climactic. Interesting setting. Lacking in scary.
