Wow, I was not prepared for this book. Although I found it in the horror section (which I don’t typically read, but happened to have come across an intriguing review from NPR singing its praises), it has a bit of other genres in it, too. There are quite a few unexpected reveals, besides what’s in the trunk. I loved the history that was woven into the book, as well.

This book was a pleasant surprise.

This is another book that ages really well in my mind. I think it's mainly because it has such a rich atmosphere and I'm a sucker for that. I also loved the way this book was about (lone) women and the way they connect to each other, there is just something heartwarming about that, it gets me every time. There are several deeper subjects and motives that I could write about but I left this far too late and I don't have enough grasp of the details anymore to do this book justice, so not doing it.

Shoutout to the amazing narration by Joniece Abbott-Pratt!
