Wow. What a journey this was. I took me for-freaking-ever to read because each paragraph was like taking a h*t of ac*d and I don’t say that lightly. I don’t have words to describe this experience and that’s quite exactly the point because God is that which cannot be defined, like “trying to see sight itself.” You’ve probably heard the concept “you are the universe made aware of itself” and the book is that on steroids. I was worried that the language would be too heady and inaccessible, and it probably is if you’re not familiar with philosophy or theology, but I was pleasantly surprised by how digestible this was, despite it taking me a year and a half to read. It’s called “THE Book” for a reason and I highly recommend this to anyone who asks big questions about the Ether, which is most if not all of us.

Going into this read i was heavily skeptical on the notion of not knowing who I was, and how Watts would be able to make the case against me. I was not expecting a clear and concise breakdown of the contemporary isolation we perform on ourselves and the ways in which it fails us. While certain aspects of the book definitely needed to be read a few times to properly grasp the ideas Watts was getting at, i loved how clearly the ideas he presents combine into this clear assertion that you are IT. and IT is you.
A really necessary read for anyone and everyone, even if you're not looking for a radical restructuring of your ego, it serves as a great dive into Eastern philosophy.

This book is like a surgeon operating on the consciousness, and giving it the necessary 'psychedelics' - perceived in one way.
Another gem by Watts. It's a short but powerful read - basically tackling the concept of "I" and what makes a person, them. This is one of the must reads, and will change the way you see things and people around you.
Although, I must warn you, it is a very difficult book to read. Watts is very abstract, so you'll either need to read slow of multiple times. Either way, set aside time to read it without distractions around you!

It's quite wordy and a lot to digest. I'm sure there are good insights in it so I will most likely return to it in the future.

Pedantic ramblings of an orientalist white dude obsessed with western interpretations of Hinduism but otherwise averse to all other religion and its followers because he has a gripe with Christianity. Nothing of substance to share but apparently plenty of condescension. And I’m saying this as an agnostic. This book is cringey af
Little loosey-goosey on the logic, but I think this Watts fellow is on to something.
WELL. Yep. Honestly philosophy is hard and life is weird. probably gonna read this again sometime BUT for now, i like how Watts writes. He makes things simple and easy to chew (as easy as this sort of subject matter can be) it’s not over dense or confusing (like how i find lots of philosophy soz not soz)
do i know who i am? no
is that important? maybe
should i read this book again? definitely
