The Love of my Life

This book started out pretty slow in my opinion and I came very close to putting it down (which I never do!) However it definitely picks up in the second half so I’m glad I stuck with it. I’m not sure if the author was trying to make this a contemporary fiction or a mystery/thriller so it feels a little disjointed but either way she redeemed herself in the second half.

I wasn’t sure where this was going to go but it plodded along nicely enough and ended with a satisfying result.

Didn’t change my life though sadly!

Bumped up from 2.5

I had high hopes for this one after seeing it everywhere last year and knowing it was a GMA Pick. I bought it last year but just got around to it and it was … meh.

It had a similar vibe to The Last Thing He Told Me so if you really enjoyed that book you would likely love this as well.

I really struggle when I find all characters unlikable. I mean, I even disliked the dog

Wow. There is so much happening in this book I almost don't know where to begin!

I loved The Man Who Didn't Call/Ghosted and all of Rosie's previous books as Lucy Robinson. I feel her writing has so much depth - it's really easy for me to imagine the story playing out in my head and I am just utterly absorbed into her books.

The Love of My Life combines mystery and romance as Emma and Leo's lives began to unfurl when seemingly innocent actions end up having big consequences. Whilst some elements I did guess, for the most part this kept me on tenterhooks wondering how everything might work out in the end. Also I love Sheila and I would like to be her.

So gripping I devoured it in one afternoon! Big thanks to Pan Macmillan/Netgalley for the ARC.

This book had an interesting premise, but was executed in a disappointing way.

My biggest issue with The Love of My Life was pacing. The first third moved at a snail’s pace. It essentially repeated the same basic idea ad nauseam: Emma has secrets, Leo is confused, no one has any idea how much their life is about to change. It was a slog to get through.

The middle third was a flashback that answered 80% of the questions raised in the first third. This was very much a “tell not show” situation that dumped far too much explanation at too fast a pace to really internalize.

The final third was the strongest, with good pacing and enough balance between twists and explanations.

This book really felt like three books, only one of which I really enjoyed, thus the three stars. I was also put off by the title. It felt hackneyed and a bit rom-com, and not at all representative of the actual plot of the book.

This one was interesting but just had me hoping to get to the end. I’m still kind of like wut

3.5 stars. Some plot points were a little far-fetched and convoluted, but it was needed to make the story work, and it was imaginative so rounded up to 4 stars.

This book put me on the struggle bus. Part of me feels like I'm being too hard, part feels like I'm not being hard enough. I'll just have to leave it at that.

Solid mystery! I enjoyed

For a synopsis that comes off decently dark this was not what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. I read Walsh’s Ghosted and this had similar elements but was a stronger story. I love when an author is able to tie together characters unexpectedly and this was a great example of that. If you’re looking for a unique, character driven mystery than this one is for you.
