Math make a love match- so much fun!

I'm really surprised to see so many terrible reviews for this! She's an uptight, brilliant auditor from a con-running family, he's a well-meaning and sweet duke who's overly absent from the bank he ostensibly runs but has recently learned there are some sketchy dealings that must be cleared up.

I liked:
It's a slow burn, fade-to-black romance where they genuinely like each other first. Very much appealed and felt believable to my demi self. Their mutual respect and appreciation is palpable, both in actions and using their actual words. There's no sex on the page, but she's sexually empowered and joyful; solid consent and no shaming anywhere. The barriers to their romance are logistical and emotional. He's a strong beta hero (except for one iffy interlude) and the competence porn is lovely. The wider cast of characters intrigued me, too.

Absolutely willing to read more by this author and in this series.

Forever and a Duke was the "one that got away." I'd read the rest of the series but missed this one in. I'm thrilled that I finally have because outside of the first in the series in which the reader meets Quinn and Jane, this is the best.

The main characters are charming and relatable. Neither is perfect but their insecurities are plausible and endearing. There's a bit of a mystery, which is the excuse for the couple to meet, and the mystery does take most of the novel to unravel...it does so without the actual culprits being totally obvious to the reader...but the main focus consistently seems to be the romance. This is a story for the reader who doesn't need to be distracted by a fast moving, plot driven story. The character development carries it well, and the quirkiness of the Wentworth family, connected to both main characters, makes the story even better.

Keep in mind that readers who enjoy a spicy read will not find that here, but the pacing and the story itself is more than satisfying. The "congress" is fairly limited both in number and description. On the other hand, logophiles will be more than compensated. Burrowes has one of the best lexicons in historical romance. Her language quenches the word-lover's taste for infrequently used morsels, which place the reader in the era. Unfamiliar words become clear in context even as they grow the readers' personal vocabularies. {Sorry...former HS English teacher.

I think I liked this one the best because of the banter between Rex, the Duke of Elsmore, and Ellie, Wentworth, the Duke of Walden's ruthless bank auditor. He was a little more lively. And Burrowes' intelligent writing especially shines with Ellie Hatfield's explanation of various accounting schemes that embezzlers and other fraudsters might use. It's amazing how banking worked back in the day, although one can still rob banks through computers and software, can't they?

I'm on the fence on whether I will read #4, though, involving Althea. And then we've got one more sister, and I guess finally Stephen, who will probably be approaching 30 at that point and might not be such a rake anymore.

I received an e-ARC copy of Forever and a Duke from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was extremely enjoyable

Rather predictable, but frankly, I really enjoy visiting the gentle and kind Burrowes universe. The men are secure enough to be affectionate with both women and their male friends, the women are complex and interesting, and you can't help but get a rush of dopamine from the way the characters enjoy one another. I need a break from historical romance, but I'll likely continue to pick up whatever Burrowes writes. It's a happy little escape, despite the fact that most of her characters have suffered.
