A fantastic short story collection by one of the greats! No one can do spooky stories with fall vibes like Bradbury.

Some of the stories were boring, but some were great. I loved The Next In Line, The Small Assassin The Crowd, and The Scythe.

Mostly horror short stories.

A fun collection of stories, some ups and some downs.

I had read a number of these in other places at some point, but still others were new to me. Overall an enjoyable collection but I feel like the thing I enjoyed the absolute most was Mr. Bradbury's introduction and description of what The October Country was.

" the country where it is always turning late in the year.
That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain."
A collection of 19 short stories is a 1955 collection of short stories. 15 of them are reprinted from his 1947 collection.
Ever judge a book by its cover? judged this one by it's title and the above quote (found on it's inside page). That was a mistake. Most of these stories are set in the summer and the atmospheric writing was not as present as in his other works. This was a tough one for me to get through. Many of the stories were unsettling to down right macabre and very much a product of their day, especially when it comes to misogyny (cringe).
This is early Bradbury and it shows.
I'm not going to rate this with stars here as I do not think I was the right reader for this collection. Perhaps someone who enjoys the horror genre would glean more enjoyment out of it then I did.
