ok ik some ppl would probably think this is too slow but i thought it was kinda epic
The Wall Of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata was so stinking cute! I absolutely love her writing, it takes slow burn to the extreme! But because it’s a true slow burn, you get a LOT of character development and a realistic relationship development where the two main characters really become friends first and foremost. And for some reason, that just makes me swoon even more when reading her books. I think it’s because Mariana’s writing style is more about a realistic type of love and romance development than fantasy and over exaggeration. Her writing is for everyone and anyone and is digestible yet still full of flavor.
Vanessa is a great female lead character. She is stubborn and sassy when needed, yet compassionate and understanding. She has a troubled past but she tries to be better and not let her past define who she is or what she is capable of achieving. I think that is the greatest message throughout this book. She takes care and protects those she loves while not taking anyone’s shit. She doesn’t let Aiden walk over her after she quits and she knows her boundaries and doesn’t falter with defending herself when someone crosses them.
Aiden is… Aiden lol. He is a hard-headed asshole who keeps to himself until he knows he can truly trust someone. He doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve, he keeps it locked away in an impenetrable vault only giving the code to a handful of people. But when he does let someone in… he is the biggest softie and will defend those he loves with every ounce of him. Aiden is the type of man who shows his love through action and not words. Coming from an abusive background, actions mean more than words ever could. He already lost two of the most important people in his life, so he’s content to being by himself… Until Vanessa comes into his life and no sooner than her leaving did he realize how much he needed her. Maybe not as a wife, or girlfriend or even romantic interest. But Aiden realized how much Vanessa truly cared about him while he was her assistant. It just took him being an asshole and not defending her for him to lose her and realize just what he lost.
But in the end, the two finally understood just what the other person meant for the other and realized they were each other’s safe haven. Like with all Mariana Zapata books, she hit this one out of the ball partk. 4.5/5

MARIANA ZAPATA HAS DONE IT AGAIN! Another slow burn that has my heart from beginning to end. Aiden and Vanessa had me laughing and my heart breaking all in the same page. This one will be in my re-reads for years to come!
No thoughts other than: I am a sucker for Mariana Zapata slow burn.
I’m genuinely convinced Mariana zapata could not write a bad book. This book made me giggle and kick my feet and I’m not sure there was a point in this book where I was bored. No notes

3.25 ⭐️
I usually love MZs book, but every time Vanessa called Aiden ‘big guy’ I died a bit inside
And please for the love of god stop mentioning his size 13 feet
AND I was completely lost with the ugly colours she kept dying her hair
Not my fav, maybe even a bit hyped up for what it was
But MZ knows how to write a great slow burn with amazing character development (end had me crying)
