I must say this book was something of a shock to me. Of course, I was familiar with the general idea of the story, so that wasn’t a surprise, but the execution was startling.
It reminds me very much of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. The conversation of man’s duality is one that I will have to think more on, but these two works do an admirable job of displaying it. I especially like the portrayal of evil and its effects on humanity. Well — not “like” but admire.
It was much shorter than I anticipated but so packed with intention that it took me longer than usual to finish. I will likely reread it in the future to refresh my mind.
A good suspenseful short read if you’re looking for one! Very dark.

"I have been made to learn that the doom and burden of our life is bound for ever on man's shoulders; and when the attempt is made to cast it off, it but returns upon us with more unfamiliar and more awful pressure."
A nice story about duality of man's nature and an attempt to separate the inseparable, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde reads like a combination of Frankenstein and The Picture of Dorian Gray to me. It was good, but I felt it lacked suspense and more detail, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

I'm glad I finally read the original story of the "Jekyll and Hyde" concept. It was different from what I expected, seeing as it was written from a more distant narrative, so to speak. As in, it was written from the perspective of the observers of the events, with only one chapter from the perspective of the main character.
I think I would've liked to see the journey Dr. Jekyll went through in more detail, I feel like one chapter was too small for all that.
The second story in this edition, called "The Bottle Imp" was a very peculiar and enjoyable story. It was a nice addition, in my opinion.
