I don't usually read contemporary romance, especially about straight people, but I gotta say.... it was actually alright. Despite hearing a lot about Emily Henry, and knowing she's very popular, I still braced myself for a bit of cringe since I'm not usually into these kind of books. However, it did surprise me with how invested I actually was.

I understand why Emily Henry is a popular author. Some things I'm usually afraid for in contemporary romance novels are: weird, unnatural dialogue, really annoying decisions made by the main characters and unbearable love interests. But thankfully this novel passed the test. She's a very skillful writer. She knows how to write good chemistry and witty dialogue.

Because I was listening to this on audiobook, AND on x1.8 speed, it certainly made the smut interesting lmao. I'm probably not the target audience for that but I'm just thankful I didn't hate the love interest.

I appreciate that the MC, Nora, did not infact give up her (for lack of better word) 'dream' in the end and did, as intended from the beginning, go back to the city, to her job. I must admit it would have annoyed me a little if she then again gave that up to stay with Charlie, or even if she said it was for the sake of her sister.

Emily Henry does do a good job of describing the feeling the lose of control or the grappling need to find it. It's nice go see a bookish character that has depth, also, other than just being written as "I'm just a girl who likes books. Look I'm always in a bookstore." Overall, very fleshed out character which was nice:^).

In conclusion, I don't really know how to rate contemporary romance novels since I don't read them often so if you feel I've given this Lower than expected for my review then I'm sorry!!! It was a good one time read but whether I'll be coming back to read more is a different story I suppose.

That being said, I think Emily Henry seems to be a good introduction to this genre.
