My first taste of Ernaux's writing style and definitely not my last. She writes bluntly, similar to Hemingway, and her themes are strongly conveyed. There's definitely a postmodern flair to the way she blurs the line between memoir and fiction. Paging through some of her other books that I have, I already notice (especially in "Happening" and "Getting Lost") that she alters or draws the curtains back on some of the events here. I'm excited to eventually dive deeper into her works and get a greater sense of how she manipulates her own memory and the genres of memoir and autofiction as a whole.
