CW emotional and physical abuse

I support women's rights, but I also support women's WRONGS. This book is deliciously seductive. The world feels extremely real and sucked me in immediately. Sid is one of my favorite literary rakes.

Note: you don't have to read the first trilogy in order to enjoy this duology.

This was a beautifully written story that features a heart-warming heroine. The relationship between Nirram and Sid was so soft and lovely. Nirrams character development was outstanding, and made me both love and hate the ending. It was a good pain and I'm excited to see how it's acted upon in the next book.

My only gripe with the book is how difficult the beginning was to read. A lot of the sentences were short, clipped, and rigid. The author also has a habit of not using quotation marks which sort of muddled things at first. It got easier after a bit, and I'm glad I threw away the thought of DNF-ing it.

The best part was the banter with Sid. This is how to write banter! 3.5 stars

In the world where, for some people, it's illegal even to wear colour or eat sweets, two girls dare to question every rule... And fall in love in the meantime.

The Midnight Lie was on my radar for a really, really long time - at least couple months I think. So, of course, when I finally got this book in my hands my expectations were really high. Luckily, I can assure you that this is indeed a really good book, with some amazing lesbian representation and interesting worldbuilding. I loved how the class injustice was explored, i loved how the author showed her main character struggling with compulsory heterosexuality and I love how toxic relationship was handled here - these are some heavy themes but Rutkoski has slayed it.

I absolutely adored the main ship in this book - Sid and Nirrim's chemistry was incredible, I loved reading their banter as well as all that yearning between them. And the ending of The Midnight Lie had me absolutely shocked and in desperate need for the sequel.

"Sometimes it can feel so good to give someone what they want it is the next best thing to getting what you want." - The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski

Nirrum lives in the lowest ward with the rest of the Half Kith. They are made to work for the Middling and High Kith's pleasure. Make all of their goods for them and paying tithes if they are caught breaking the law. Nirrum knows this is the way of it. That is until she meets Sid. A self proclaimed lair and a rake. Sid is a traveler. One who is seeking the secret of the magic of the High Kith. Nirrum must decided whether to leave all that she knows behind for the chance of something new. Something magical.

This book took so many of my deepest thoughts and collected them onto these pages. There were several moments were I had to physical but the book down and take a moment to process. Her fight, both internal and external, for her own happiness hit really close to home. It's hard to put what I feel for this book into words.
