This was an emotional read for me. I am really invested in this series now.
I have been slowly making my way through this book series. They have a great story, but the writing it a bit slow. BUT ... This book I sped through. It is my favorite in the series thus far. I can't fully convey how much I truly enjoyed this book without giving away spoilers. The story was great, there was lots of action and adventure and also a little bit of love, betrayal, psychos, and murder(and obviously fantasy). This book will not disappoint you.

Definitely the weakest in the series so far. Very slow to read but picked up towards the end.
So far this one was the favorite of the series. You can begin to see all the different components of the series. Also, I was able to learn a little bit about the other characters other than Richard and Kahlan.

First off I'd like to note that I listened to the audio book. I do this so I have something to listen to in my car to and from work. Each audio book in this series has had a different narrator. Brilliance Audio - don't you care about some consistency for your audience? I guess the answer is a no which is a shame. Each narrator pronounces different words in the series differently. This particular narrator is alright however he cannot pronounce Kahlan's name correctly. Since she is a main character it is a pretty big flaw. It took most of the book for me to adjust to her new name.
This is probably my least favorite book in the series to so far. It seemed to drag a bit and the phrasing is getting repetitive. This might not bothered me if I hadn’t been listening to the books back to back. With time between them perhaps I would have forgotten Richard’s “raptor gaze” and needed to be reminded about it every chapter or so. The plot was alright but would have benefited from some editing for length. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t mind long books! When there is enough story going to justify it I won’t even notice. Here however things dragged a bit.
Overall the book was okay. I hope later books in the series improve instead of continuing down this rambly repetitive path.

The series starts to take a turn (quality-wise), capped off with the least sexy sexytimes ever.
