This was the first Lee Child Jack Reacher novel I read. It immediately got me hooked on the series.
This is the first Lee Child novel about Jack Reacher that I have read, and I really enjoyed it. Unlike other novels I have read lately, this was a real page-turner and I had a hard time putting it down.
The hero of the book is the loner Jack Reacher, ex US Army CID (Criminal Investigation Command). At the start of the book, he happens to have observed a man crossing the street and getting in to a car. This turns out to be a kidnapper picking up the ransom payment, and Jack Reacher gets involved in the case.
The story is pretty action-packed, and more and more is revealed about the kidnapping. There is (of course) more to the kidnapping than first meets the eye, and I particularly liked how Jack Reacher on many occasions was using clues that had been presented to the reader to get closer to the solution. In this way, this book was similar to a typical crime novel, where clever reasoning and keen observations lead the investigator further.
At the same time, there was enough action and suspense to qualify this as a real thriller. The final shoot-out is particularly pulse-raising, but there were several other good passages in the book that keeps you at the edge of your seat. The cast of characters is good to, with a valiant hero and suitably nasty bad guys.
If you are looking for a good, fast, action-packed thriller, I can recommend this one. I will definitely read more of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels.

No need to dive deep into Lee Child analysis - if you have read one of them, you know what to expect. On the upside, you get a good solid thriller. The plot will have twists but they wouldn't be absolutely unrealistic. It actually holds much better than his previous novel ("One shot"). On the downside, I figured the main twist of the plot about 2/3 through the book which made it a bit less interesting.
Overall, I'm happy with the book and it served its purpose (holiday time reading to cram in between more serious books) perfectly.

I was apprehensive to pick up a Jack Reacher novel, as I have heard mixed reviews from colleagues. This book was delivered to me in a Reader's Digest set of four, and I'm not one to turn down a free book.
The story is fast paced and loaded with action. I see the appeal of this popular leading man, he is exciting and powerful. The plot was nice and unpredictable, which I adore. I found myself racing Jack to piece together the mystery, turning page after page to follow his remarkable trail. I was even satisfied when he beat me to the solution, since predictable novels frustrate me. Overall I give this book 4 stars and a wink for an ending I didn't figure out. I can honestly say I'll pick up another Jack Reacher novel in the future. Nice work, Mr. Child, nice work.

My second Reacher book in as many weeks as well as watching the two movies. I can see me reading more despite not actually thinking they are that good.
The author does a really good job of writing in a very easy and accessible way without overly grabbing attention he keeps you turning the pages and reading more. The pacing stalls in places but on the whole the plotting is fairly solid with a few mildly unexpected twists and turns. There are a few moments of random co-incidence that have held the plot together but not too much considering the long running nature of this series. Also its nice that this did not feel just like the first one I read.
The character of Reacher is pretty silly - if anyone actually saw him they would be like who is this bum?
This story is less fresh and original than the first in that a kidnapping of a rich mother and daughter feels like over-tred ground and indeed this book brings nothing fresh to the equation but its a fun light read.

A really good one in this series. The plot twists are especially clever, and Reacher gets to go to England for a bit.

I liked this one. I ended up reading it pretty fast and took it on a camping trip with me. It was really good with a couple of twists I wasn't completely expecting. It kept me on my toes and kept me interested the whole time.
