Better than I expected and far superior to most books on the subject.

Don’t feel like a learned a whole lot new - great thread of amazing different ideas, sometimes the stories go a bit long once the point is made. I enjoyed it tho.

I'd give it 3.5 stars. I liked the book. I liked the layout and the format. Stating the problems that lead to depression and the laying out the solutions (that are not always medication) to fix depression. Basically, the solution is connection. Connection to people, community and nature/the environment, something bigger than ourselves. I agree to a point. As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety my whole life, I know that there are ways to manage my issues--exercise, friends, self-care. But there is only so much that helps and then medication steps in and does the rest. So that's the flaw in the argument. I agree that modern medicine is flawed and is too quick to just give meds, but I don't think never giving meds is the option either.

I didn’t love this book but I didn’t hate it either. It was a little too simplistic and surface-level for me
