I had some qualms with the writing that I can probably attribute to the translator, who opted for the phrase “get-up-and-go” as the best noun for whatever Japanese word Mishima used to describe Shinji’s admirable character. Qualms aside, it was fine. It’s a very easy read and a timeless tale. I appreciate the underdog arc and the clear values (eg: get-up-and-go) expressed in this story, but it didn’t blow my bind.

i love thiiiis gorgeus book
shinji and hatsue's story are so dynamic. beyond the boundary, sometimes thought-provoking, and some parts are written "too sensual" and assertive rather than gentle and in more affectional way.
طوری که من در غرق داستان خودش کرد، و راه خودش رو به درونم پیدا کرد تا بچه درونم رو پیدا کنه و اون رو بنشونه پای این داستان برام خیلی ارزشمند بود.
دنیاسازی و توصیفاتش از زیباترین نمونههایی بود که توی یک کتاب داستانی غیر فانتزی دیده بودم.

[b:The Sound of Waves|62805|The Sound of Waves|Yukio Mishima|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1441602562l/62805._SY75_.jpg|132842] is a very cute story and my heart is fuzzy after finishing it. It has a smooth arc, the scenery is beautifully written, and it even weaves in the very realistic aspect of gossiping villagers/neighbors. It says it all in the summary, but Mishima's lush story telling takes this rural landscape to another level. You can almost taste the salt in the air as you read- the book just pulls you into its world. It has its own gravity.
