Sawyer Bennett crafts a delightfully sexy and heartfelt romance that delves into the much debated question can a man and a woman truly be best friends?
♕Plot: Professional hockey player Kane Bellan has never twice about the fact that his best friend is a girl. Of course there are a lot of skeptics out there, but ever since he met Mollie in college 10 years ago their friendship has been rock solid. But when his travel blogger friend shows up on his doorstep fearful because of a problem with an ex-boyfriend, Kane doesn’t hesitate to offer his place, his shoulder and all the love and support she needs.
But as the two realize the two of them care for each other beyond friendship, can the find a balance between their developing romance and their careers that would keep them apart?
♕Hero: Kane is dreamy hero, super laid back, a great friend and teammate who has been cheering on Mollie ever since they met.
♕Heroine: Mollie has a heart of gold, but will her wanderlust overcome her love for Kane?
♕Sexiness: Kane and Mollie have known each other for so long that it’s only natural that they take the next step of their relationship with ease sharing an undeniable attraction born out of their deep connection. Naturally, there are some setbacks but their decade old relationship is built to last and it was fun to see it grow.
♕Feels: I love how Sawyer incorporates past Vengeance couples giving the fans of the series on update on their favorites and introduces new and interesting characters I can’t wait to get to know.
Kane is book #8 of the Arizona Vengeance series by Sawyer Bennett. Kane is a feel-good hockey romance. It’s told from both points of view with a happy ending.

From my first read of this book as an ebook Sep 2020:
Gotta love a good friends-to-lovers story. What makes this one extra touching is that the story doesn’t have one of the characters holding a candle for the other over years and years. While Kane and Mollie definitely have chemistry, even before they start their romantic/sexual relationship, they have both tamped down any feelings that aren’t strictly friendship. So there’s none of the typical unrequited love and uneven distribution of feelings in this story, and I loved it.
There was a bit of time when I thought Mollie might make some bad decisions and not share things with Kane. But, for the most part, these two are very open with their communication. At least up to a certain point. I’m sure that comes from the many years of being best friends and confidantes.
When things started to crumble in this relationship, I got so mad at Mollie. Yet I also somehow understand her position. Then I got mad at Kane, although I totally saw things from his position even better. It was a tug-of-war of my feelings and I just wanted these two to work it all out and be happy.
As always, I adore the group of players and their significant others in this series. With some newcomers and others who have been biding their time on the periphery, I can only imagine there are many more stories to come and many more opportunities to catch up with this crew.
Update after reading audiobook Feb 2025:
Although I loved this story, I don't feel I loved it as much this time around as I did the first time. Honestly, I think it was the female narrator that didn't work for me here. She did a great job with the female voices, but not as great with the male voices. Overall it's still a great read, I'd just suggest going with the written edition first if that's an option for you.

What I get a kick out of in these books, is the little snippet we get for the next release, so in the last book, we found out that Kane has a best friend of ten years, and she had rung him to check in. It was enough to have me intrigued and wanting to know more about this couple. In saying this, in this book, I am now hanging out to know more about Jim and his wife Ella and if they can fix their marriage.
I love this hockey romance series, and Kane is one of my favs. He loves his job and has settled in completely with the Vengeance club, especially his second line team mates. They are a close knit group and would do anything to help each other out, and that includes their significant others as well, it’s one huge happy family in Arizona. And Kane is going to need them to assist him protecting his bestie, Mollie when she comes to visit and drops a bombshell in his lap. But he is the man to help fix her problem, and has the means to go about it. What might be their stumbling block is time, not compromising and heat of the moment verbal sparing.
As well as Jim and Ella, I’m dying to know how Baden recovers and what’s behind the deep and dark Riggs. So many more Vengeance players to delve into. Can’t wait.

I think this is the first Sawyer Bennett book I've ever DNF'd. I just really wasn't feeling this one. I didn't even really realize when it had been two weeks since I had picked it up. I just decided to give up for the time being. We will see if I ever come back to it.

3.5/5 -- friends to lovers is a trope that I usually struggle with, so I was already a little nervous to get into this one. A big part of it is how the transition goes from being friends and then into a relationship. I wasn't sure what way I wanted it to go, but it felt a little a bit easy for me.
The one thing I do love about this trope is the friendship history that the main characters have and these two definitely have the best friendship. You can definitely understand the reasons why, they never took that next step.
There is a little bit of a suspense element dealing with Mollie's ex and I think Bennett tackled that balance effortlessly.
I'm a huge fan of this series and have absolutely enjoyed reading everyone's story, I love that we get to see characters from the previous books AND all the possibilities for the next book.
This one didn't quite hit home with me, but still an enjoyable read!
