This book was different than I expected, but still good. I thought it was a little slow to start, but about an hour into the audiobook, it picked up. I hate to put books into a "gender" category, but even though the main character is a girl, I think there is enough stuff to interest boys, too.

Third book I’ve read from this author and I’m so impressed with the breadth of their work! Each story has felt so unique and has its own voice. I loved how tough our FMC was in this book. The harsh realities of sea-faring life and piracy was described so well. Love Adrienne Young’s stunning show don’t tell ability of her writing. First in a 3 book series and I’m eager to  read more! This book is juicy and lush with vivid descriptions of the world and life at sea. I can almost smell and taste the salty sea air!

This seafaring adventure was perfect escapism.

The sea is more than a body of salt water. It can Powerful, Mysterious, Resourceful and Dangerous.

Fable was raised on a ship with her parents. One awful night, while out at sea, a terrible storm caused their ship to crash against a coral reef. Fable and her Father survive. They find refuge on a small island that is close by. An island full of thieves. When they reach the shore they notice that Fable’s mother never made it off the boat.

With a grieving heart, her Father makes a decision to try and keep his daughter safe. He made a promise to Isolde that he would protect Fable and he is a man that sticks to his word. Saint leaves Fable on the island. He gives her five rules to follow. One of them being that she mustn’t tell anyone who her Father’s Name. They make a deal that if she can get off the island and find him then he will give her what is rightfully hers.

Fable does everything she can to survive. However, when she meets Saint again the reunion is not what she was expecting.

This story is engaging, memorable and unpredictable. Fable was ambitious. She always found and escaped trouble in the most stimulating ways. She has the spirit of fighter and the friends she makes along her journey fall under the same category. The characters were all appealing. They played off one another in matter that was well orchestrated.

If you enjoyed the Pirate of the Caribbean movies then you will love this book. The best part? Our pirate is a woman.

Wow! I loved the book. One thing, though, I can't connect that much with the characters emotionally. Still, it was a great read so I'm gonna be looking forward to reading Namesake.
