as always, it takes me a fair amount of time to really get invested into a book. luckily for me, the book did not disapoint!
i loved fable and her character and her motives made sense to me. fable's relationship with her father pained me and i felt so bad for her and i wanted to cry. her mother wanted to make me cry as well.
the only thing i didn't like was how the romance aspect came so quickly without warning but otherwise, this was a really really good book!

First, my copy of this book is from Fairyloot and it is BEYOND STUNNING. So it's worth having the book simply because it's gorgeous.
As far as the story, the entire time I was waiting for something to happen. I kept thinking, well, maybe more will happen when she gets off Jeval. Nope. Maybe more will happen when she finds her father? Nope. Maybe more will happen when she goes to get her inheritance? Nope. There's just a lot of sailing going on. The descriptions of everything were fabulous, I just wanted more depth. I wanted to love these characters as much as I love the cover and sprayed edges of this book. I wanted to be invested in the growing relationship between West and Fable, but we don't get anything. We've lost a lot of the time they've built up their relationship because they've known each other for over two years. But it doesn't feel like they built up any relationship. I wanted some witty conversation or, really, any conversation between them.
I was so ready to be back in the land of pirates because Tricia Levenseller's duology, Daughter of the Pirate King, kicks absolute ass. And I was really hoping this would be the same. It's okay that there weren't any pirates, because Fable is the daughter of one of the most powerful traders on the seas. But there's no power in that at all, and I just didn't get any of the excitement I wanted. Oh well.

I am quickly becoming an Adrienne Young fan. Her writing is so easy to follow and has such poise you’re always entertained. Adding most of her other books to my TBR immediately. Can’t wait to read the other books/novellas in this series as I love all the characters so much.
