“The only safety that existed was in being alone.”

I absolutely devoured this one because I couldn’t handle the tension between the characters. It was driving me insane, in a good way.

This book was short, sweet, exciting and had some romance. I loved the strength this female lead had. She wasn’t waiting for anyone to save her, but would allow herself to become vulnerable at moments too.

I wish the romance was not so straight forward once it got going. They went from this constant need to avoid each other to a kiss and then to an “I love you”. It was way too fast and there was no in between. I wish we either had more between the kiss and then sleeping together or even just omit the profession of love. Two characters can have a romance without processing their love for each other immediately. An opinion, not a fact.

I definitely want to point out that the terminology used may be unfavourable to some. As most of the story takes place at sea and our characters are crew members aboard a ship, a lot of technical terms are used. As someone who knows nothing about boats, I found myself referencing google a bit. I personally don’t care and love to learn knew things, but if that’s something that may bother you, it may be something to take into consideration before picking this one up.

A very enjoyable read
slow-paced

Love the concept, love the characters, love the plot. Gives me Pirates of the Caribbean vibes. Love the short chapters, kept the pacing fast and kept me on the edge of my seat. Love, love, loved it. Starting book 2 right away.

5/5

Every now and then, you’re fortunate to come across a book that completely sweeps you away from the first page and leaves you captivated until the end, finding every excuse you can to just keep reading. Fable by Adrienne Young is the perfect example of one such masterpiece.

As the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home seventeen year old Fable has ever known. The story opens four years after she watched her mother die on a shipwreck and was rescued by her father, only to be abandoned on an island a day later with a promise of a reward for her survival. Brave and tenacious, Fable has survived the past four years with the goal of finding her father and earning her rightful place on his crew. Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father. Her father’s rivalries and the dangers of the trading enterprise have multiplied, and Fable soon finds out that West isn’t who he seems. Together, they’ll have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows.

Full of incredible imagery and promise, the narrative sweeps you into Fable’s brave, tenacious, heroic journey and doesn’t let go. From the first page, I felt as if I was sucked into Fable’s world as she fought for her survival and made her way across the sea. The character development is impeccable, and the satisfying, action-packed revelations are expertly paced to always leave you saying “just one more chapter”. An easy, captivating YA read that’s perfect for getting you out of a slump. Thank you, @adrienneyoungbooks, for writing a duology that reminded me why I love reading so much and provided the true joy of getting lost in a book.

Plot and world didn't catch me that much, neither did the characters. Why are they making Out under water? How much air do they have?

Rompy YA adventure on the high seas. It was ok. I enjoyed the characters and found family trope. Light, and easy for younger teens to read.
