This was a definite downgrade from the previous book, but there is no denying this is still a fun read.
It is very clearly a bridge book. The plot relied heavily on conveniences, a silly prophesy, and reprising old villains instead of fleshing out all the potential new ones we met in A Map of Days. Problems were resolved quickly, but at the expense of some characters getting their shit absolutely rocked. The new relationship dynamics are interesting, but it's a lot of 'showing' not 'telling,' and I don't believe it. I kind of just expect a little more out of a series five books in.
I still absolutely love the general atmosphere and vibe the story gives off. I can picture reading this book with along with kids someday (though, things have gotten progressively darker as the series has gone on, so maybe not young kids). It's such a good premise. I'm hopeful that the last book will wrap things up in a satisfying way.

I think besides the first one this is probably my favorite... I love this series.. gonna kill me to wait for book 6!
I’ve loved this series since the very first book, so I was super excited when I found this one at the bookstore…on my birthday!!!
Sad to say, I was disappointed with this one. I think Riggs has found a pattern now…start with the solution to the ending twist in the last book, will they make it? They make it. BUT things aren’t as they seem, another challenge. (repeat as necessary), look like you’re finally getting somewhere and discover you’re in the middle of another challenge. End with a hook.
Yes, the pattern works, but next time I won’t rush to buy the just published book…I’ll wait and see if the style goes back to the old, fun books instead.

The Noor x Jacob romance feels forced, awkward and unesscary. Everytime they have a moment it interrupts the story. It is completely unnecessary and I'd perfer if they were just friends
I really want to give this more stars, and I was expecting a wrap up of this series. But NOOOOOOO!!!!!
The whole saga getting unnecessarily dragged out now. It feels to me. Was quite a long book with not much going on, not much illustration. Couldn’t quite finish it, even with a sizeable down time in the middle of it. The story or characters couldn’t reignite my interest again when picked it up.

Honestly I’m just tired of the romance in this series. It doesn’t need romantic relationships. The books would be great with just the adventures and friendships
I agree with several of the reviews already posted. The schtick that made this book so interesting (the pictures) just doesn’t translate that well. He could really just do away with them by now. I also felt like there were so many convenient plot points thrown in that “helped” the peculiars. It was all so obvious. The first four books seemed so well-thought out and creative. This one did seem thrown together and like he didn’t give it much thought, hence the convenience of a lot of the plot. I’ll definitely read the last book but, please, let it be the last one.
