I love these books. Jacob does the dumbest shit sometimes but I really enjoyed this one.
I think this might be the lowest raing I have given a book from this series. The first half of this book was 2-3 stars, but then the second half picked it right up to 4-4.5! So I'm settling this one at 3 stars. A 300 page book should not take me 2 weeks to read, especially not while I decide to reread 5 other books before bothering to finish it. Really says a lot.
There are a few reasons I have come up with as to why this book didn't do it for me:
1. The books should have ended after the original trilogy (although I did like book 4!!)
2. The peculiarities were honestly not very present. The characters were there, but there was very little magic compared to earlier books. Especially in contrast to the urban world. The original book had that blend of modern to mix it up.
3. I can't remember much of what happened in the last book (oops)
4. The photos feel far more forced than necessary. Tokenistic almost.
Wow at the end of this list I'm really feeling like I've talked this book out of another star. Okay, let's look at the good things:
1. The tension picked up a lot. The quests started to have more stakes, and a bit more mystery too! The last 20 pages had more magic than the whole book put together!!
2. Noor added that urban blend I really wanted. Although not enough, she was something.
3. Jacob controlling hollows again! I love this ability.
Okay, I feel better about my 3 stars now. Hoping that the last one in this second trilogy is better.

One of my favorites of the series.
I think too much time passed between when I read Map of Days and this one. I had to reorient myself with a lot of things and had trouble remembering parts of the characters and the loops. I still enjoyed reading it, there’s plenty of action and, of course, the iconic vintage photos. Again, not particularly integral to the book as with the first few, but still a nice added touch to the novelty of this series. The book is long, but somehow you get through it so fast. I don’t know if it really was lacking in content or I was just so engrossed- but I felt like it could have been longer.
Maybe I’m not a true fan of the series, but I don’t feel too critical of this one or the last book. Apparently adding 3 more books to the series was unplanned and some feel they are disjointed and disappointing, but I have still really enjoyed them. I have not grown tired of the peculiar world and it’s villains yet. I’ve still found it to be creative, fun, adventurous, and entertaining. Maybe if they keep adding books I’d change my tune, but I’ve been happy with the story thus far and am looking forward to how he wraps it up in the next one!

I would rate this 3.5. I just couldn't get into it like I did the first 3 books.
