This was an extremely tough and challenging read, so definitely be sure to look at the trigger warnings. There are quite a few graphic descriptions of violence and war. A very informative and emotionally moving read though about a time in history that most people don’t know about, and also one that does well at highlighting the atrocities of war. I have always liked this author and her writing.

A beautiful sad book about middle class people (including a math professor) living through the Biafran War. I knew nothing about this before. The book did a great job of making the characters into people who I associate with, even though they are so foreign in some ways - a perfect example of a novel working better for me than a history book.

Adichie's characters live on the page in the time of the Biafran conflict in Nigeria in the late 1960s-70s. I look forward to her next book.
