I loved everything about this book! I am so excited to meet this author and meet the characters she made. I couldn't put the book down! If you love adventure and fantasy you have found it! It is not out of reach, the characters are relatable and captivating. Going through this story with Lysta really makes me root for her. Seeing her character develop the way it does and seeing how the characters interact with each other is great. There is depth, life, love, adventure, twists, and so much more!
I am beyond excited to see where this series goes in the next book and excited to come back into this fantasy world! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.

2.5 stars rounded up.

This book held a lot of promise. The concept of people going through Trials to earn their powers was really cool, it just didn’t work here.
The world we are introduced to is broken up in the UnTrialed(powerless) and the Trialed(powerful). With all the fear surrounding the Trial I expected it to be, well, challenging. It’s over very quickly and very painlessly. I’m not sure why more Untrialed, considering how terrible their lives are, aren’t lining up to try it.

I would say it’s a fast paced, okay read. I wasn’t really concerned or connected with any of the characters, or events but it’s the authors first book I believe and there is potential here. Especially sense she’s writing more books for this series. Unfortunately I’m not sure I’ll continue it myself.

This is me literally writing my review by midnight.
When l saw this book on instagram l knew I absolutely had to read it
When I finished, I started searching for book 2
War Hour has a very lovely cover to begin with.

Basically, you have to trial for your power so it’s something earned. The book covers manipulation, court politics, betrayal, touch her and I’ll unalive you vibes
The MMC has potential to break the internet if he plays his cards right. Everybody loves the morally grey characters

It’s a great read and I’m eagerly anticipating the next!

Full disclosure, I was selected to receive an ARC.

I thought the concept of this book was very interesting and was what initially compelled me to give it a read through. And while I enjoyed the plot and liked the characters, I can’t help but feel there were pieces missing.

I feel like this could’ve benefited from further development, more time with these characters in scenes that explore their characters and the world around them, not solely for the advancement of plot. Also I needed more descriptors! I have zero thoughts in my head for how anything looked, felt, smelled, sounded, etc., I want to be encapsulated by the “vibe” of the book.

Overall though, this was an enjoyable enough read as I haven’t engaged much with YA fantasy as of late, but it left more to be desired. Congratulations on your debut Lauren, excited to see what is to come in your future.
