The Purloined Letter doesn't completely hold up with all the countless stories it inspired, but what Poe creates with his Dupin stories was revolutionary and needed to inspire Doyle's Holmes and Christie's Poirot among others. This story is still interesting, even if it feels a tad antiquated.

Nice, basic crime story. Read for English class.

Eh. Not my favourite of Poe's works by far, but I do respect it as a departure from his typical style and subject matter. The real reason I didn't like this is because it's almost entirely dialogue, and for a story that could have been interesting, 95% of it is spent rambling on about algebra and metaphysics.

Reminds me of Sherlock Holmes, might read the other C. Auguste Dupin stories.
