I really enjoyed Hopeless as the finale of the Chesnut Springs series. All throughout the series Beau was always the one we knew least about so it was a nice change of pace to be seeing what his life looks like.

I really enjoyed the way that his PTSD regarding the army was explored, and I think Bailey was the perfect character to handle all of that alongside him. She was strong and independent but we still saw a lot of the softness that she has from being treated badly by nearly everyone in town!

The only thing I would have changed was that compared to books 1-4, Hopeless read a little more like a standalone. There wasn't as much of that calling back to the other books and big events that we saw with the others. So I would have liked a little more background about what everyone else was up to just to round off the series with a final update almost.

But otherwise, I loved the book. It was well written, it was swoonworthy in places and the spice was very nicely done.

Age gap trope + virginity trope= BADDD. It’s unfortunate that this is the book that closes out the series. Beau and Bailey weren’t nearly as compelling nor had chemistry like the other couples did. Their fake engagement lacked foundation; it was flawed from the beginning and wasn’t talked through like they believe it was. The pacing was odd, and some of the sexy scenes were actually criminal LOL. There was one plot point that had me gagged since it had been subtly set up since Flawless, but otherwise this was a let down 🫥
