Good, not great. Loosely based on Pride and Prejudice - some similarities, thankfully not too faithful.
Set at a small liberal arts college, the lead character EJ is an engineering student and the hall director for Bennet Hall. The story begins at the start of the school year where she meets Will, the Darcy character. It takes quite a while for her to figure out he doesn't hate her.  Even longer to figure out what she wants in life.

Quite impressive for a debut novel, and worth the read.

It was quirky and light-hearted. The representation of different women at differrent stages in their life was good as well. If you feel that you're a black girl that doesn't fit into any box built by society, this is the book for you

Was a fun read. Romantic relationships felt a little rushed and at times lacked detail, but the main character was pretty loveable. I also loved all the pop culture references but can see how this will age in a few years.

I really liked what Appiah-Kubi did with updating the P&P storyline, she made the story fresh & interesting, adding her own ideas without losing the original story. I particularly like what she did with the Jane & Bingley storyline! But when she took things past the original P&P story, the pace really shifted and it felt like the story was dragging. But this is definitely one of the better adaptations that is around!

didn't love:
-didn't connect with the characters

-very slow paced. it dragged on and I was bored. could've been at least 50-60 pages shorter
