Let me start by saying Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favorites.

I usually refuse to read books that put a spin in the classic because I’m usually disappointed.

This one has so much potential due to the diversity of our main characters but my God is dragged.

And dragged
And dragged.

But despite itself, the story came together well in the end as we knew it would.

It was good… but we needed about 50 less pages.

Delightful!

This book was a 5-star book until the last 30~45 minutes.

The book is amazing, the writing is phenomenal, the plot is so fun (every day i was missing the book) and the characters are endearing. I don’t remember much of pride and prejudice but this felt like a perfect book regardless.

The narrator of the audiobook was just perfect, too! The way she voiced different characters distinctly made it easy to follow through, and it made sense for each to sound the way they did; her narration wasn’t just different voices for different characters, but it was voice-acting where every character was obviously well-studied and their voicing had different mannerisms.

Lastly, my only problem was with the ending; it felt underwhelming and dragged. I love books which show life after the ending/epilogues, however, with The Bennet Women there wasn't enough of a time-skip to feel the feeling epilogues give, and it was just a lot of mellow moments where nothing major happens.

Also, I felt like there wasn't enough focus on the Bennet house, it was definitely there, but I didn't feel like the effects of its existence were integral to the story’s progression, they constantly mentioned it and its community, but there were few moments where I felt like it was really here.

At the end of the day, however, this book has definitely become one of my favourites and I will be recommending it to you and my friends xx

Heartfelt and fun

I very much enjoyed this story. The entire story has so much depth and purpose. The characters are fun and engaging with a plot and setting that are vivid and real. EJ is such a great personality. I like a story with multiple POV and thought the transitions were well done. Each characters POV was in the right place and find in a way that kept the story flowing.

The author suggested this book to me in the comments of a video I made about loving modern retellings of Jane Austen's work.

The structure was frustrated. As it changed POV, you'd read about the same moment of time.  However,  it didn't add anything to the story. It only messed with the pacing.

Amei!

This was a phenomenal read, and I regret that it took me so long to actually finish it due to life events.

To call it a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice does this title a disservice, it’s so much more than that. It’s raw, emotional, moving, inspirational, motivational, sweet, wholesome, and empowering. To follow a brilliant young woman, her friends, and loves in a college setting, navigating their futures, their present, their love lives, their friendships and the challenges of being people of color and trans.

I love the subtle growth towards love, a woman doesn’t need a man, she wants one. She’s strong and intelligent, carries herself with pride and does her own damn thing to reach her own goals. Motivated by her own power and will.

The love is an added gentle bonus. It’s a love that starts out as a not so great meeting, rocky.

While yes, I can see the absolute comparison and retelling of Pride and Prejudice it stands alone as it’s own remarkable and empowering story.

Wonderful book, great pacing, and honestly worth reading. Empowering, inspirational, and motivational. wonderful story about self discovery, learning the truth, being honest, following your heart, and always following your dreams.

You have to trust yourself while learning to trust others. Growth.
