So slow

I forced myself to read to 76% and had to stop. At no point did the story draw me in. It’s soooo slow. The main female lead is far too self righteous and judgmental. I Rea wanted to like her, but I couldn’t get past her inner anger and rationalized rude and hateful behavior towards those she deems unjust. I thought about half way in there might be a sub plot happening, that might be interesting, but that went no where…or maybe it’s in the last quarter of the book.

I liked the little nods to Pride and Prejudice and the diversity. However, I felt like some of this diversity was added as an afterthought. Jamie's character fell flat and, although I don't think every trans representation should be based on coming out or their struggle, I felt like Jamie's transition was just used to advance the plot and add diversity and came once every 100 pages. Overall, a good read but it didn't necessarily fill the craving for some Pride and Prejudice quite like a few other modernisations of it.

This had the potential to be an enjoyable read, but the characters were not fleshed out enough, and the author missed areas of exploration and fell short in the message I felt they wanted to convey.

review will be coming soon. April 1 :)

If I were to give this book a rating I’d say a 2.5⭐️ and considering I haven’t reached for it for a few months I’m just gonna call it quits.

I didn’t realize it was a influenced by a Jane Austen book, couldn’t tell you which one. I did enjoy the short chapters and the multiple POV’s but even at 60% I felt like I didn’t really know the characters or really cared about what they were going thru. 3 college friends I guess just figuring it out. There was some trans rep but she wasn’t even really a side character…she was just there…and I felt like that relationship definitely could’ve been a lot deeper. Then there was an angry Asian friend who was strong and independent but wanted love…I guess. And then EJ was cool I actually liked her and she was the focus I suppose but just nothing super believable with her family issues and school stuff and her love interest ummmm yea just no.
