I’m so glad I found this on Kindle Unlimited. You can either read it as an ebook or audio format. We have Elizabeth (EJ) at the center as our main female MC. We have Jamie, a trans femme character (I kind of saw her as Jane?) & Tessa, our Filipina character. We follow the trio during their last / junior year of college. A lot of exposition in the background but it’s done in a way to make you get an idea of what Longbourne University is like as well as a set up for the story. You can definitely see some parallels between the classic and this modern take but I like how everything was normalized and people were being called out but not humiliated. Worth checking out.

Beautiful Pride & Prejudice rendition

I don't know why I'm so obsessed with retellings of Pride & Prejudice. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just keep retelling it according to our modern world. At least I'm pretty sure that's how that saying goes. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It held the essence of Jane Austen's famed book without feeling like a copycat. Each of the characters were so authentic and real, though I wish we had a bit more of Tessa in the story. Nevertheless, a black female main character in a book like this made me immensely happy. This was undoubtedly one of my favorite retellings.

I really enjoyed this book. Friendship. Romance. Going after your dreams and goals. So much representation. This book felt like a nice warm hug. Women look after one another and really are there for each other. I loved EJ and Will and their relationship. Lily was another great factor! The book started off slow but eventually, I got to the point where I didn't want to put it down.

I sometimes cared about these characters? The plot is a reworking of Pride & Prejudice, and sometimes it was fun to see how the adaptation had been made, and other times a bit of a let-down. The swathes of pop culture references (some real, some invented) were a bit irritating, as was the incredibly eggy exposition. Characters call each other "big brother", etc, say stilted things like "she was in the tennis club - the sport was her true passion", and every paragraph is crammed with unnecessary detail in cheesy prose.
